Add a custom domain
Add the domain
Open the project's Domains page and choose Add domain. Enter the hostname,
www.example.comfor instance, and choose what it does:- serve an environment:
production, or another one; - or redirect to another domain of the project. See Redirects.
A hostname can only belong to one project across Hiraiship. Hiraiship's own domains,
hiraiship.appandhiraiship.comwith all their subdomains, can't be added. The domain serves traffic only once it's verified.- serve an environment:
Create the DNS records
The domain's row shows the records to create at your DNS provider, where you bought the domain or where its DNS is hosted. Copy each value from the dashboard: they're specific to your domain.
A subdomain (
www.example.com,app.example.com) needs aCNAME:Type Name Value CNAMEwwwfallback.hiraiship.appAn apex domain (
example.com) can't have aCNAME. It needs anALIASrecord, which some providers callANAMEor CNAME flattening:Type Name Value ALIAS@fallback.hiraiship.appIf your provider has neither, serve the site from
www.example.com, and redirectexample.comto it from a provider that can.Until the domain is verified, the dashboard may also list
TXTrecords. They prove you own the domain and let its certificate be issued: create them too.Wait for verification
DNS changes take from a few minutes to a few hours to spread. The status moves to Valid configuration on its own; choose Refresh on the domain to check right away. See Verification & SSL.
Domains on other environments
An environment other than production has no hiraiship.app address: a custom domain is how you reach it. Add staging.example.com, and choose staging as its environment.
Changing or removing a domain
Edit on a domain changes its environment, or turns it into a redirect. Removing it stops it from serving traffic right away; the DNS records at your provider stay until you delete them.
A domain other domains redirect to can't be removed: remove or change those redirects first.
